VSP to postpone implementation of frame policy

On June 27th, the AOA sent a letter to VSP Global Chairman of the Board Daniel Mannen, O.D. taking issue with several of the company's corporate practices.

In the letter, AOA:
  • Called VSP's Premier Provider program "fundamentally misleading to patients, unfair to doctors, and at odds with the delivery of quality care."
  • Took issue with VSP's frame policy, which would require doctors of optometry to carry VSP-owned frame lines or face a cut in reimbursements.
  • Reiterated AOA's support for the Dental and Optometric Care Access Act (H.R. 3323). The legislation, backed by the AOA and the American Dental Association, cracks down on vision plan abuses.
Yesterday, VSP announced that it was postponing implementation of the frame policy.

We remain vigilant in advocating for vision plan practices that enable high-quality, patient-centered care, and ensuring that vision plans follow all relevant laws and regulations intended to protect your ability to apply all of your skills, education, and professional judgment in the care you provide your patients.

How can doctors of optometry help:

Ask your member of Congress to support H.R. 3323. Use the AOA Legislative Action Center to contact your representative now. Don’t wait until tomorrow. Please do it today.
Contribute generously to AOA-PAC, our political action committee which supports federal candidates who support us. Don’t wait until tomorrow. Please do it today.

Optometry's Meeting

The WOA was well represented this past week in Boston at Optometry's Meeting.  Wyoming was part of the AOA Nominating Committee in which Lynda Jones, WOA President, spent hours participating in the business of the AOA Nominating Committee for the positions of AOA Trustees.  Additionally, she spent numerous hours over the past year participating on the planning committee for the AOA President's Council.  Thank you Lynda for all your work on behalf of WY!

The AOA House of Delegates was attended by Lynda Jones, Brandi Bilyeu, WOA President Elect, and Kari Cline.  There were no significant changes made by the AOA House of Delegates this year.

Roger Jordan was recognized with a standing ovation for his work and efforts for the past 18 years on the FLAC committee.  He will now be moving into a new position as Senior Policy Advisor for the AOA and continuing his work on a broader level for advocacy at the federal level.  Thank you Roger for your continued work!

GWCO Registration Open

Western Governors Association

Recently, the AOA was a sponsor for the Western Governor's Association meeting in Jackson. Since this year's meeting was being hosted by WY, the AOA asked Kari Cline to attend to represent the WOA and WY OD's.  While there she attended networking opportunities and visited with several Governors from the Western States about a variety of health care and eye care issues important to you.
