Dear Colleague,
As an industry thought leader, it is our intention to keep you updated on important developments in our company. We are pleased to inform you that Johnson & Johnson has now completed the acquisition of Abbott Medical Optics (AMO). AMO will join Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc., the maker of ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses, and will operate under the brand name Johnson & Johnson Vision (J&J Vision). The following is a link to our
press release announcing the transaction close.
This joining of global leaders in contact lenses and surgical ophthalmic devices represents a significant step toward Johnson & Johnson’s long-standing strategy to become a leader in eye health, helping to improve and restore sight to more patients around the world. Johnson & Johnson Vision will now be able to leverage each organization’s considerable strengths and expertise – and draw upon the vast resources and expertise of Johnson & Johnson – to address your needs and the needs of the patients you serve.
Over the longer term, Johnson & Johnson plans to apply our innovation processes to both organizations – and make further investment in eye health – to develop product enhancements that reflect your needs and new products that will benefit patients worldwide. Your knowledge and expertise will continue to play a critical role in those advancements.
We have produced an
infographic that showcases the power of our combined operations and the opportunity we have to fulfill unmet needs in the global eye health market.
Because our products serve distinct eye health segments, the surgical ophthalmology and contact lens businesses within Johnson & Johnson Vision will continue to operate our respective customer-facing organizations separately after close. Tom Frinzi, a recognized leader in the ophthalmology market, will lead the surgical business. And Swami Raote, who brings 25 years’ experience at Johnson & Johnson with background in the dynamic consumer goods sector, will lead Johnson & Johnson’s contact lens business. Both will be led by Ashley McEvoy, a highly respected Johnson & Johnson leader with some 20 years’ experience at the company in the vision, surgical and consumer areas.
We value our ongoing partnership with you, which ultimately benefits patients everywhere.
As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
Peter Menziuso Millicent Knight, OD, FAAO, FAARM
